Frequently Asked Questions

How often should your HVAC system be serviced?

It depends on the manufacturer's instructions. Usually, yearly maintenance is recommended for optimum performance and the long life of your equipment. Your HVAC system may actually need service more frequently than you think. A dirty filter will affect your system's ability to circulate air effectively. If you replace your filters as recommended and do not routinely clean or adjust your unit, it may still be working harder than necessary and may break down more frequently.

What exactly does furnace repair entail?

Repairs on furnaces can range from simple cleanings and filter changes to more extensive work such as motor and limit switch replacement and capacitor and transformer replacement. It is all dependent on the issue!

How often should drains be cleaned?

Drainage systems should be inspected annually for blockages and cleaned as needed. If your drainage system is slow to drain, it could indicate a problem with the drainage system. Your plumber may need to snake a line or a jet might be needed to clear a blockage that has occurred due to grease or other materials building up over time.

What is the best technique for cleaning out drains?

You can use a wire hanger to fish out hair and other objects. A plumber's snake will work best for unclogging the actual drain line. It is important that these are done periodically on your system, or you could end up with major drainage problems!

Why is my air conditioner on but not cooling?

It is important to first determine if the problem is related to the coil, compressor, or fan. If your unit's exterior coil is dirty and not properly cooled by refrigerant lines then your system may be running inefficiently and produce little or no cooling. There could also be a loose electrical connection somewhere within the system that causes the power to shut off. This could be the result of a bad capacitor, overload switch, or loose wiring somewhere along the line outside of your unit. If there is no visible damage to the compressor, it may be low on refrigerant. When you call your air conditioning company they will come out and recharge the system with R-22 Freon.

What should I do if my furnace starts making strange noises?

A banging and knocking noise could be caused by a loose heat exchanger, worn motor mounts, or even debris in the blower compartment. This should be checked out by a furnace repair technician to determine the exact cause of the unusual noises.

How do I know if my plumbing is bad?

If your plumbing is leaking, corroded, or in any other way compromised, it is best to have it repaired as soon as possible. Serious water damage can occur if left untreated. Signs that your plumbing may need repair include discolored water, low water pressure, strange noises coming from the pipes, and leaks. Leaks can often be detected by a wet spot on the floor or walls.
